Leicester playmaker Drinkwater seeks permission for Chelsea talks

Leicester City playmaker Danny Drinkwater is seeking permission to speak with Chelsea.

The Mirror says Chelsea were keen to take Drinkwater from the Foxes last summer as well as N'Golo Kante in an audacious move.

But Leicester were unwilling to sanction the double swoop - which would have meant losing both key players from their title-winning midfield - and Chelsea did not want to jeopardise their move for Kante.

The Blues, however, now want to sign him this time around with Antonio Conte impressed by his work rate and his game intelligence.

Drinkwater, missing from Friday night's friendly against Borussia Moenchengladbach, is keen on the move and is ready to leave the King Power Stadium.
