Leighton Baines Urges Everton to Build on Victory Over Southampton Ahead of Cup Tie With Leicester

Everton left-back Leighton Baines has urged his teammates to carry the team'smomentum into their FA cup tie with Leicester City at the weekend.

The Toffees form has improved considerably in recent weeks and they have now picked up 10 points from their last five games. Having recently dispatched Southampton 3-0 last Monday, Ronald Koeman's side sit in seventh place in the league and have started to find some consistency after enduring a difficult few months.

And as the team now prepare to host Leicester City in the FA cup third round on Saturday, Baines has demanded the team continue their good form and wants them to aim for a long run in English football's most famous competition.

Speaking about the win over Southampton and what lies ahead, the Everton defender told the club'swebsite:"It was a good win but we had to be patient. It's tough going for everyone over this period but in the end to come away with a 3-0 victory is brilliant for us.

Obviously it does give us confidence, that's natural, it comes with winning games. The important thing for us now is to go and build on it. We've got a big game in the cup that we want to do well in, so if we can get a win in that then I think the place will definitely be lifted.

We had good cup runs last year so, of course, we'll look to do that little bit better this year.

Koeman's men will be confident of getting the better of a Leicester side they beat 2-0 on Boxing day. Goals from Kevin Mirallas and Romelu Lukaku gave the the Toffees a comfortable win and they will be keen to heap the pressure on the Foxes, who themselves are facing a fight for their Premier League survival as they sit just six points above the relegation zone.
