Leroy Sane Joins List of Manchester City Players Set to Miss New Year's Eve Clash Against Liverpool

Manchester City managerPep Guardiola has revealedLeroy Sane is going to be unavailable for his side's trip to Anfield on New Year's Eve.

Sane has struggled to shake off a knock that also kept him out of City's last game. There is no indication of when the young German will return from the muscle injury, but it will keep him off the pitch at least for another week.

Sane's problem sees him join already crocked pairing of Vincent Kompany and Ilkay Gundogan in missing the top of the table clash.

Kompany has been plagued with injuries since joining City, however his recent injury to his ligaments should see him back mid-January.German international Gundogan is out for the rest of the season having injured his knee earlier this month.

One positive for City, however, is the potential return of John Stones. The 22-year-old, like Gundogan, injured his knee on Boxing Day but Guardiola has insisted the England international is "much, much better".

Talking at the pre match conference ahead of the battle, Guardiola welcomed the task of facing up against Jurgen Klopp in the Premier League.

"I was lucky enough to play against Jurgen Klopp, we know each other well," he said."I saw Liverpool this year many times and I was off, my family were not here."

However, the Spaniard warned Klopp about the return of striker Sergio Aguero from his four-match suspension, saying:Aguero is ready - he came back good from Argentina. Finally, he came back after four games ban and we are happy he is back.

City are currently third in the table and will be looking to keep the heat on leaders Chelsea. Liverpool sit in second, a win for Pep's men will see them leapfrog the Reds.
