In a new report by Mexican outlet Mediotiempo, it seems like Nico Lopez's future could be away from Monterrey, as it looks like Ajax are eyeing the Uruguayan forward as a possible replacement.

According to sources close to the player, Lopez seems interested with the prospect of playing in Europe, but the negotiation could be difficult, as Tigres would surely ask for a high price, as they want to monetize any possible departure after they already spent important capital bringing in a player like Florian Thauvin. Lopez hasn't been able to find a lot of space while at Tigres, as previous manager Ricardo Ferretti did not often employ him in the starting eleven.

New manager Miguel Herrera, however, could reconsider giving Lopez more minutes, especially because both Gignac and Thauvin are expected to be away for the start of the Liga MX campaign while they represent France in the Tokyo Olympic Games. This could be a further roadblock for Ajax as they look to bring the Uruguayan back to Europe. Lopez in fact, previously played in Serie A with Roma, Udinese and Hellas Verona, with a brief spell at Granada as well in La Liga.
