According to reports earlier this week, the 41-year-old's return to Camp Nou was almost complete, with only the final procedures remaining. His present employers, Al Sadd, released a statement saying that the former Spanish international still has two years left on his contract and that no formal approaches have been made for him.

However, AS's Javi Miguel has now revealed a new twist on the subject, stating that Xavi's appointment at Barca is firmly in place.

The report from the Spanish publication states that Xavi will leave Al Sadd after their next two Qatar Stars League fixtures against Al Ahli and Al-Duhail. The first game, which is set to take place tonight, would allow the Spaniard to say goodbye to the supporters at home.

The latter, against Al Sadd’s arch-rivals, which goes down on November 3, can take the team closer to the League title, as a win would potentially open up a six-point lead at the top for the Qatari giants, which would be a good note for Xavi to leave the club on.
