Chelsea have emerged as the frontrunners to sign Swedish wonderkid Alexander Isak, according to ESPN.

The likes of PSG and Juventus had been rumoured to be interested in the 17-year-old prodigy, but Premier League leaders Chelsea have now tabled a bid and are considered favourites in the race for the striker who plays in his native Sweden with AIK.

A source told ESPN Chelsea have overtaken PSG in the running, having made a transfer offer.

"PSG have been in contact with AIK numerous times but there is no offer on the table right now," the source said.

"Inside the club, Chelsea are the favourites and have already proposed €11 million."

Playing in the Allsvenskan in Sweden, Isak scored a total of 10 league goals in 24 appearances, and has been scouted by several of Europe's biggest teams throughout the season.

Despite all of that, Liverpool are also thought to be in the running, and could make an approach for the youngster pretty soon. It could work out as a more favourable option for Isak, given Jurgen Klopp's willingness to play academy products.

Last week, ESPN reported talks between AIK and Ligue 1 champions PSG had begun, with the Swedish club thought to be demanding €15m for the youngster. Other reports had indicated Juventus had offered €16m for the Sweden U21 international.

Chelsea's youth roster is currently packed, with the club sending out a whole host of youngsters on loan. Young strikers such as Tammy Abraham, Patrick Bamford, Islam Feruz and Joao Rodriguez have all moved to clubs on loan, all with various success.

The path to the first-team is somewhat blocked for young strikers at Chelsea, with Diego Costa currently the top scorer in the Premier League with 10 goals. Summer signing Michy Batshuayi has also found games tough to come by as a result of the Spaniard's impressive form, making eight substitute appearances.
