Despite their dedication and commitment, football supporters are often forgotten when it comes to awards.

Come rain or shine, there are thousands of fans who never get the recognition they deserve, but all of that is set to change afterFIFA announced they will be including a new fan award to accompany their awards ceremonyin January.

January 9th 2017 will see the FIFA Player of the Year announced, as well as other category winners such as theFair Play and Puskas Awards.

And for the first time ever, football's world governing body will also be announcing the fans of the year for 2016,although it's more focused on a specific occasionrather than a particularset of fans.

Ado de Haag supporters are the first nominees after their touching gesture during an away match at Feyenoord. The travelling fans, who were in the top tier, threw down a selection of soft toys and teddy bears to youngsters fromRotterdam's Sophia Children's Hospital, who were also attending the game.

Liverpool fans have also been nominated, although if victorious, they will have to share the award with Jurgen Klopp's old side Borussia Dortmund.

Both sets of fans came together to sing "You'll Never Walk Alone" before their Europa League clash earlier this year in what was a rare show of unity between home and away supporters.

The final nominee - whichis perhaps the favourite - sees Icelandic supporters put forward for theirfamous 'Volcano' chant-come-clap, which become popular during the European Championships in France last summer.

The winner will, coincidentally, be chosen by football supporters across the world, who are able to vote by going onto FIFA's officialwebsiteand having their say on which one of the three nominees deserves to win the first ever FIFA fan of the year award.
