Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur are set to go head to head for the signing of Croatian youngster Ante Coric, according toSquawka.

The 19-year-old has made two international appearances for Croatia, and his club have decided to accept transfer bids in January, with both Jurgen Klopp and Mauricio Pochettino interested.

Both clubs reportedly held talks with Zagreb over the summer but Coric elected against a potential move, opting instead to stay in Croatia and review his options in January. Coric also pulled out of a £15m move to Manchester City after he learned manager Pep Guardiola planned to send him out on loan during his first season.

City are reportedly unlikely to return for the teenager, but Coric is still expected to leave Zagreb, and would prefer a move to aPremier League club despite interest from Europe's biggest clubs.

Liverpool have been linked with a move for Coric over the past few years, and have been in constant contact with the player's representatives over a potential move.

Tottenham have done business with Zagreb before, signing midfielder Luka Modric back in 2008. The midfielder spent four years at White Hart Lane before moving to Real Madrid.

Spurs are hoping to take advantage of their good relationship with Zagreb, with Coric fitting the profile of the type of player Pochettino wants to bring to the club.

Everton are also interested in signing Coric, and are hopeful that their promise of regular first-team will sway the decision in their favour. Zagreb are open to selling Coric due to their poor performance in the Champions League, with the club currently bottom of their group.
