Liverpool Defender Still Optimistic of Title Chances Despite Sunderland Draw 'Feeling Like a Defeat'

Liverpool defender Dejan Lovren has admitted the club's draw with Sunderland in midweek "felt like a defeat", but he is still optimistic that the Reds have a chance of winning the Premier League title.

Jurgen Klopp's side threw away all three points on Wearside earlier this week by conceding two penalties in a 2-2 draw, despite having the lead on two occasions, and the club's hopes of winning the league took a significant dent at full time. Their failure to win came just a couple of days after brushing aside Manchester City thanks to Gini Wijnaldum's goal.

Leaders Chelsea have the opportunity to move eight points clear of the Merseysiders should they beat Tottenham at White Hart Lane on Wednesday night, but at the half way stage of the season Lovren remains confident that anything can happen.

Speaking on the Sunderland draw,Lovren told the Liverpool Echo:"It felt like a defeat, especially after beating Manchester City. But we have to keep our heads high. A point is better than nothing."

Liverpool face Manchester United in their next Premier League game at Old Trafford, with two cup matches in between, though they also welcome Chelsea to Anfield at the end of the month.

Lovren added:"There is still half a season to go. There are so many games in front of us and in front of Chelsea. We just have to concentrate on ourselves.

"We have some really big games in front of us. I'd say we like to play against the big teams. There's a lot to play for."
