Liverpool don't need Aubameyang - Klopp

Jurgen Klopp has told DAZN that Liverpool have not made a move for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang because they do not "urgently" need another striker.

Sources told ESPN FC that Arsenal have agreed a £55 million deal in principle with Borussia Dortmund for transfer of the Gabon international.

Aubameyang, 28, joined Borussia Dortmund from St Etienne in July 2013 and played under Klopp at the Westfalenstadion until the manager's departure at the end of the 2014-15 season.

After loaning Daniel Sturridge to West Bromwich Albion, Liverpool now have Danny Ings and 20-year-old Dominic Solanke in reserve to first-choice No. 9 Roberto Firmino, but Klopp insists that is enough.

"Auba is really a good guy," Klopp said. "Of course, reading the newspapers, you ask yourself if all these things must happen. But in fact things are mostly not that controversial as they are presented. In the end everybody will be happy.

"In the first half of the season he also scored often, although last summer he wanted to go to China allegedly. He is a great player but he does not play in a position for which we urgently need new players."

Klopp is yet to sign a player for Liverpool who he worked with at Dortmund, but was reportedly interested in a move for Mario Gotze in 2016.

Speaking at a Rheinische Post gala dinner in Dusseldorf, Bayern Munich president Uli Hoeness said the drama surrounding Aubameyang at Dortmund "cannot be good for football."

ESPN FC's Mark Lovell contributed to this report.
