Liverpool Face Anxious Wait Over Star Man Adam Lallana's Injury Sustained in England Draw

Liverpool have been left sweating on the fitness of Adam Lallana after the midfielder picked up an injury while on international duty with England.

The midfielder pulled up in the 27th minute of the Three Lions' 2-2 home draw with Spain on Tuesday night just minutes after handing England the lead from the penalty spot.

BBC Sport reported that Lallana had suffered a knock during the friendly encounter at Wembley, and the 28-year-old is now a serious doubt for Liverpool's Premier League clash with former club Southampton on Saturday.

Speaking after the game, interim manager Gareth Southgate said that he hoped Lallana would not be out of action for too long, particularly given his fine form since the season begun.

He said: "It was a great shame because I've really enjoyed working with him. He's an intelligent, very talented footballer who's adding goals to his game for England. He was quite key to how we were wanting to play."

Lallana has featured in every one of Liverpool's 11 Premier League matches so far this term, and has helped fire the Reds to the top of England's top flight in the process.

Jurgen Klopp's men have blown away every team they have encountered since a shock 2-0 defeat away to Burnley in week 2 of the 2016/17 campaign, while Lallana has chipped in with three of Liverpool's fantastic haul of 30 league goals so far.

The ex-Southampton man's impressive work-rate, technical ability and unbelievable stamina have helped make him a key component in Klopp's 'Gegenpressing' match tactics since the German took charge in October 2015, but the former Borussia Dortmund boss now faces an anxious wait to see if Lallana will be available for the trip to his old stomping ground.

Lallana has scored 16 goals and registered 17 goals in 102 appearances for Liverpool since he completed a £25m move in July 2014.
