Liverpool full-back Clyne dealt World Cup injury blow

Liverpool defender Nathaniel Clyne has suffered an injury blow which will dent his hopes of making the England squad for next summer's World Cup.

Manager Jurgen Klopp has admitted that the 26-year-old had taken "a few steps back" since returning to first team training.

The absence of Clyne has coincided with Liverpool's poor form defensively this season and they have conceded 17 goals from 11 Premier League games so far this season.

When asked if Clyne is ready to return to action, Klopp said: "No. You cannot rush it.

"He was in a good way, running with high intensity, stuff like this. But the muscle showed a little reaction.

"That was not an injury, and usually with a healthy and fit player you wouldn't even think about it.

"But in his case, because it was a little sign again from the back, we took him out and it's a few steps back again."
