Liverpool hero McManaman: We must beat Huddersfield or else...

Published on: 30 January 2018

It is amazing how a couple defeats can change the mood at a football club.

When Liverpool beat Manchester City, optimism was at an all time high.

Despite the club having lost Phillippe Coutinho to Barcelona, they had also welcomed new signing Virgil van Dijk from Southampton to shore up the leaky rearguard.

However, the next two games resulted in disappointing defeats, with van Dijk unable to stop the flow of goals.

West Brom managed three goals at Anfield in the FA Cup loss, and Liverpool fans know a turnaround is needed. The urgency was echoed in comments by former Liverpool player turned pundit Steve McManaman.

"This is a little bit concerning, you have to admit," BT Sport pundit McManaman said.

"In January last year they went out of the competitions, they lost league games and got knocked out of the FA Cup.

"It was really a miserable time last January when that happened.

"The fact they have now lost to Swansea and the disappointment against West Brom - albeit exciting but disappointing - it is slightly worrying.

"Everyone must be feeling the same way. Of course you have to be positive and think a win over Huddersfield and then going to beat Tottenham then everything is hunky dory again.

"But if the results go against you of course it's worrying, definitely."
