Liverpool Join the Race for Rostov Star Sardar Azmoun Dubbed the 'Iranian Messi'

Liverpool are keeping tabs on FC Rostov forwardSardarAzmoun, with an eye to making a move in the January window, according to theDaily Mail.


The Iranian star, already somewhat fatefullydubbed the 'Iranian Messi',has an impressive record at international level, getting on the scoresheet16 times in 22 appearances, but only netted his first Russian Premier League goal of the seasonon November 6.

The 21-year-old, whowas linked with a move to the Reds' rivalsEverton last season, could be brought in as cover for the injured Danny Ings and African Cup of Nations-bound Sadio Mane.


Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp admitted last week he might need to strengthen in January and may look to the youngster, who has also drawn comparisons to Zlatan Ibrahimovic during his time in Russia.

Azmoun became the first Iranian player toscore in the Champions League in over 10 yearsthis month, when he netted during Rostov's 2-1 defeat toAtlético Madrid.


Largely due to hisperformances in the Champions League, the striker has also been the subject ofinterestfrom European heavyweightsOlympique Marseilleand Borussia Dortmund.
