Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet says Daniel Sturridge's quality was crucial for victory over Huddersfield.

Sturridge broke the deadlock against a stubborn Terriers rearguard.

"Obviously Huddersfield sit back and it's never easy to create," Mignolet told liverpoolfc.com.

"That moment we had the penalty was of course a big chance but after that I think when we came out the dressing room and Daniel Sturridge got his goal it gave all the boys a lift in confidence.

"They felt a bit of a release and then everybody could play freely and we could score three goals which is nice. It was a good victory and a clean sheet."

And Mignolet believes the show of clinical finishing from the Reds in the aftermath of Sturridge's vital breakthrough will do wonders for confidence going forward.

He explained: "It's always very important when you get those chances to score.

"Like I said when you get the first and second the football comes freely, then you can play your style, how you want to do it and everything becomes a lot more natural.

"It's good for the boys and I think today will give everybody a lift in confidence which is what we needed after last week.

"Everybody knew it wasn't good enough and we had to change and respond in the right manner and I think we've done that."
