Liverpool Legend Steven Gerrard in Line for Dual Role with Reds and England After Rejecting MK Dons

Steven Gerrard could take up a coaching position at Liverpool, after he reportedly rejected an offer to become the new manager of League OneMK Dons.

The Liverpool legend was in discussions about taking charge at Stadium mk, following the departure of Karl Robinson, but the Daily Mirror now claims that Gerrard has turned down the third tier strugglersside in favour of potentially linking up with Jürgen Klopp at Anfield.

Gerrard is also believed to have held tentative talks with the Football Association about combining any possible coaching role with the Reds with a position in Gareth Southgate's England setup, should the latter be appointed the Three Lions' next permanent boss.

Klopp has always insisted that Gerrard would be welcomed back with open arms, if he ever decided to return and informal talks are said to have taken place already, after the 36-year-old announced his decision to leave LA Galaxy in the MLS.

However, with Liverpool currently in the midst of a title challenge heading into the busy festive period, the Mirror understands that Klopp may hold off appointing Gerrard, until after the New Year in a bid to prevent any major disruption to his squad's current run of form.

If the veteran midfielder was to head home, it is possible that he would begin his time back at Melwood by helping to tutor Liverpool's current crop of youth products in their famed academy - a move which would surelybenefit a role with England's senior set up.

The FA is rumoured to be keen on adding Gerrard and fellow ex-England international Frank Lampard to their coaching team under their next manager, with the aim of nurturing the two former world stars and turning them into potential top managers of the future.

One possible sticking point that could see Gerrard turn down the advances of the FA could be his supposed keenness to continue playing. However, any viable solution along those lines may not be possible at Liverpool, particularly if Klopp is adamant on handing first-team opportunities to more youngsters progressing through Liverpool's youth ranks in the coming 12 to 18 months.

Gerrard has reportedlyhad numerous offers to play for other clubs in England and on the continent, including Inter Milan, but it is up for debate whether any would appeal to him as much asthan an emotional Anfield return.
