Liverpool Midfielder Gini Wijnaldum Reveals What the Reds Must Do to Beat Burnley

Published on: 10 March 2017

Liverpool midfielder Georgino Wijnaldum has spoken about his side's difficulty in dealing with teams in the bottom half of the league ahead of their home clash with Burnley this Sunday.

In their last nine games, the Reds are unbeaten against the rest of the top six, but Jurgen Klopp's men are much less convincing when they come up against sides placed 10th and below.

Speaking ahead of the game, Wijnaldumsaid:"We must bring the same we bring against the bigger teams.

"If you look at the difference games between the bigger and smaller teams the difference in concentration and being passive is big, that is my opinion.

"Of course you can never guarantee you will win but you have more chance if you play against the small teams like you play the big ones.

"It is never guaranteed the next game will be an easy game,"the Dutchman continued. "You have to work hard, give 100 per cent and fight for the points.

"We must have the same concentration we have now against the bigger teams otherwise it will be difficult. We would make it easier if we also did it against the smaller teams."

Funnily enough, the midfielderhas four league goals for the Reds since arriving;all of them have been at home and the last three were against Chelsea, Manchester City and Arsenal. Given this, perhaps the 26-year-old needs to start practicing what he preaches in terms of performances against smaller sides.

In their previous meeting, Burnley won the game 2-0 despite only having 20% of the possession throughout the encounter. Liverpool even had 26 shots in the game, butonly five were on target as they struggled to penetrate a resolute Burnley defence.

Their home record against lower-ranked sides isn't too bad, but having lost to the likes of Leicester, Swansea, Bournemouth and Hull this year, it is clear that Klopp's side have a clear issue with bringing those big game performances to sides outside of the top six.
