Liverpool are not interested in signing highly-rated Ghanaian youngster Abdul Fatawu Issahaku this summer, according to Liverpool Echo.

Reports went rife on Sunday that, the 17-year-old has penned a five-year deal worth £1.5 million with the Reds from Ghanaian second-tier club Steadfast FC.

It was suggested Liverpool had swooped in to take the player ahead of Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen.

However, according to the ECHO, the Reds are not pursuing a deal for Issahaku at present.

In any case, employment rules now in place in the United Kingdom mean Liverpool would be unable to sign the player until he is 18 next March.

Sporting Lisbon and Villarreal are now being linked with Issahaku, who made headlines after he was named Player of the Tournament in helping Ghana win the Africa U20 Cup of Nations earlier this year.

He subsequently earned a first call-up to the Black Stars for their qualifying matches in the Africa Cup of Nations in March.
