Liverpool Target Christian Pulisic Becomes Youngest American to Score in World Cup Qualifier

Christian Pulisic made history last night as he became the youngest American to score in a World Cup qualifier.


The Borussia Dortmund player came off the bench to bag a braceas he helped the US to an emphatic 6-0 demolishing of St Vincent and the Grenadines. Pulisic scored his first of the game midway through the second half before adding a second deep into stoppage time.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is understood to be a big admirer of the youngster and theMirrorreport that Liverpool had an £11m bid rejected by Dortmund during the transfer window.


Klopp initially promoted him to train with the first team in January 2015 when he was then themanager of Dortmund. Pulisic broke his first record in April 2016 whenhe became the youngest foreigner to score in the Bundesliga when he netted against Hamburger SV.


The Reds are still very interested in Pulisic and continue to monitor his progress.

The 6-0 win yesterday moves the US closer to the final stage of CONCACAF qualification for the 2018 World Cup. A point against already qualified Trinidad and Tobago on Tuesdaywould see the US progress to the round known as theHex.


Pulisic has now bagged three goals in seven appearances for his country and will be hoping to add to that total should he feature on Tuesday. Pulisic's rapid rise through the US youth national teams as well as his rise with BorussiaDortmund have led to increasing attention for the young 17-year-old midfielder.
