Liverpool Target Leicester's Kasper Schmeichel in Bid to Solve Goalkeeper Crisis

Published on: 19 December 2016

Liverpool are interested in signing Leicester City goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel, according to reports.

The club are reportedly keen to solve their current goalie dilemma, with neither Loris Karius or Simon Mignolet proving reliable during the opening months of the season.

Mignolet has stepped in during the Reds' past two Premier League games, keeping two clean sheets during the wins against Middlesbrough and Liverpool.

Schmeichel impressed during his side's historic Premier League title win last season, and whilst his side has not hit the same heights so far this year, the 30-year-old remains one of the finest shot-stoppers in England.

According toFootball Whispers, Liverpool have enquired over the availability of Schmeichel, who joined the Foxes back in 2011, but any deal this winter is said to be unlikely˜unless Liverpool blow the doors off with an offer.'

Schmeichel has been a commanding presence at the back for Leicester in recent years, a quality that both of Liverpool's current goalies seeminglylack.

Simon Mignolet has had numerous critics since making the move from 2013, while Karius has been involved in spats with pundits following his performance during the 4-3 loss at Bournemouth earlier this month.

Schmeichel has made 210 league appearances for Leicester, while he has also impressed during their Champions League campaign this year, where he is yet to concede a goal.

He is also a Denmark international, and has played 22 times for this country. He signed a contract extension with the cub back in August, seemingly warding off any potential suitors who may have been interested in claiming his signature.
