Liverpool target Nabil Fekir refuses to discuss future

Nabil Fekir remained coy on his future when asked about a proposed move to Liverpool this week.

The France international appeared close to securing a switch to Merseyside on the eve of the World Cup, after negotiations between Liverpool and Lyon reached advanced stages.

Despite reports of an agreement being in place with the club and player, Lyon later came out to announce contact with Liverpool had come to an end and their captain would remain in France.

Fekir has now spoken for the first time since his failed switch, and would not be drawn on Liverpool speculation but revealed his future would be resolved at a later date.

"I am here with France, I am happy, and I am not here to discuss my personal situation."

"We will see about all that later," the playmaker said during a France press conference on Tuesday morning."

"It was great to see [Lyon president] Jean-Michel Aulas yesterday at [World Cup base] Istra but we did not at all discuss my situation at Lyon."

The 24-year-old's move to Liverpool was reported to have broken down after concerns arose regarding a knee injury sustained by the player earlier in his career.

Fekir suffered a cruciate ligament rupture in September 2015 and was out as recently as February with a knee contusion, which kept him sidelined for a month.

However, the Lyon captain insists his knee feels as strong as it did before the initial big injury: "My knee is super-good.

"We work a lot on it, we reinforce it."

"But I honestly feel like before my injury."

Fekir's agent Jean-Pierre Bernes was asked on French TV channel LCI on Monday night why his client didn't join Liverpool, to which he replied: "He didn't sign because um... it is not over!"

"This is not the end of the story."
