Liverpool's Georginio Wijnaldum Admits His Faults in the Shock 3-1 loss to Leicester City

Published on: 27 February 2017

Georginio Wijnaldum has given a very honest assessment of his own performance in the 3-1 loss away to a rejuvenated Leicester City side on Monday night.

Jamie Vardy scored a brace either side of a Danny Drinkwater wonder goal before Philippe Coutinho slotted home a consolation strike late in the second half

The Dutch midfielder, speaking toLiverpool's official website, admitted his faults in Vardy's opening goal, while also saying he and his team failed to adapt to the tempo of the game.

It was really difficult, said the Dutchman.

We knew beforehand that it was going to be tough, especially in the first couple of minutes, but we didn't adapt well in the game.

They were playing really hard in the beginning; you could see it in the first couple of minutes when they made the tackle on Sadio “ that was a sign that it was going to be a really difficult game.

We didn't adapt well in the situation, and then we went behind 1-0 with a mistake from me. Then we were not in the game.

[In the] second half, we tried to do it differently, [but] we conceded another goal. We scored a goal, but at the end it wasn't good enough from our side.

Jurgen Klopp's side now face a tough battle to attain Champions League football having failed to make any ground on fourth place Arsenal.

Ironically, the Reds face the Gunners on Saturday and the Merseyside giants need a positive to result if they are to rebuild their tattered season.

Arsene Wenger's men are not at the peak of their powers and with either side seemingly unwilling to defend properly in recent matches, neutral viewers can expect a goal fest.
