Published on: 27 November 2016

Jürgen Klopp has come out fighting following his Liverpool side's battling 2-0 victory over a very cautious Sunderland on Saturday, and has claimed that the Reds are not onlyprepared for free flowing football.

The Reds had to wait until the 75 minute before substitute Divock Origi finally made the breakthrough at Anfield.

James Milner added a late penalty to secure the hard-fought three points, whichcame in contrast to some of the more sweeping results in the early part of the season, but Klopp has stated that Liverpool are ready for defensive opposition.

There is no doubt this team is ready to play against parked buses, said Klopp in hispost match press conference.

"We have all the skills but you need to be patient. If you score early “ and you saw it, if we scored the first goal, then we get the second, the third, the fourth or whatever “ that's how it is."

The former Dortmund manager also revealed what he thinks is the most importantquality for overcoming stubborn defences.

"That opens the game. It's about the timing of when you get the first one. And the longer you don't, the most important thing is you don't get frustrated because we need to get used to situations like this."

"Last year the games were different. Last year of course a few teams played defensively against us but, this time, because we are better, we have forced them into situations like this."

The home side enjoyed 77% of the possession, before eventually prying open Sunderland andKlopp identified some of the changes made by his opposite numberDavid Moyes, in order to counter specific threats.

"I'm sure, for example, Victor Anichebe is not a left-back and shouldn't be playing there," Klopp said.

"But obviously there is no one else there to do the job for Sunderland so he's trying to stop Clyney [Nathaniel Clyne]. If you want to say it, it's our fault teams are playing that deep but we can improve a lot and we are ready for teams doing that.

Klopp's Liverpool take on Leeds United in the EFL Cup on Tuesday, where they will be without star man Philippe Coutinho who sustained an injury against the Black Cats.
