Lower-tier Ghanaian side Cheetah FC appoint ex-WAFA and Kotoko gaffer Akakpo Patron as new head coach

Lower-tier Ghanaian side Cheetah FC have appointed former WAFA and Asante Kotoko gaffer Raphael Patron Akakpo as the club’s new head coach.

The 49-year Togo international joins the Division Two outfit on a two-year deal, and has been tasked with youth development as the club looks forward to grooming the abundant talents at their disposal.

A statement from the club reads, “We’re delighted to announce RAPHAEL PATRON AKAKPO as our new Head Coach @ Cheetah Football Club”, announced Cheetah FC on Thursday.

“The former WAFA and Asante Kotoko assistant coach, have be brought in to help develop the numerous young talents the club has. He joins the Predators family on a two-year deal”, the club added.

Akakpo Patron featured for Ghanaian giants, Asante Kotoko between 1991 and 1995 before returning to the club as Assistant coach in 2017.

He served under Asante Kotoko coaches such as Steve Polack,Paa Kwesi Fabin, CK Akonnor and Kjetil Zachariassen, before parting ways with the club in October 2019.

He has worked with West African Football Academy (WAFA) as Assistant coach, where youth development has always been a top priority, before joining Asante Kotoko in 2017 and now to Cheetah FC.

Patron Akakpo, having played in countries like Ghana, Egypt, Thailand, Brunei, Malaysia, India, and Vietnam during his peak club career as a striker, represented Togo at the senior national team level between 1998 and 2001.
