Luis Suarez Urges Fellow Barcelona Superstar to Sign New Contract After Penning New 5-Year Deal

Luis Suarez is desperate to see club team-mate Lionel Messi commit his future to Barcelona after he penned his own new deal with the club.

The Uruguay international put pen-to-paper on a five-year contract extension - terms that will see Suarez remain at the Camp Nou until the summer of 2021 - on Thursday to finally put to bed any rumours circulating about his future with the Catalan giants.

Talks have been ongoing with Barcelona youth product Messi for a number of months now and, while it is rumoured that the 29-year-old will opt to remain with the club, speculation has continued to mount about Messi's future during that time.

Speaking after signing his new deal, with quotes published by FourFourTwo, Suarez revealed that he would only be happy once his fellow striker completes his own new contract, but said that his team mate was old enough to make his own decisions.

He said: "My happiness will be complete only if Messi renews his contract as well, but my renewal is not a message to Messi. He is old enough to know what is good for him."

Suarez and Messi have become good friends on and off the pitch and, alongside Neymar who also penned fresh terms earlier in the season, have become known as the most potent and feared front three in world football.

Despite their unrelenting goalscoring capabilities and undisputed talent, the trio - and in particular Messi - lost out of La Liga rival Cristiano Ronaldo for the 2016 Ballon d'Or award on Monday.

Suarez was unconcerned about not picking up the prestigious gong himself, but stated that Messi deserved to win the award every year due to his exceptional talent.

He continued: "Everyone has their own criteria, but as far as I'm concerned, Leo deserves to win it every year because of what he gives to football. He is the best."

Luis Suárez: "I'm so happy to renew my contract with Barça, this is where I want to be. I'm more happy than ever."

Suarez's new Barcelona contract will see him remain with the club he joined from Liverpool until he is 34 years of age, and the ex-Ajax star admitted that he would be open to ending his career with the Spanish outfit.

He added: "Any player would want to end their career at a club where they feel comfortable.

"We will have to see, but I will never lose either my ambition or my enthusiasm."

Suarez has scored a ridiculous 97 goals in just 166 appearances during his two seasons with Barcelona.
