Malabo King FC of Equatorial Guinea clinched a spot in this year’s TotalEnergies CAF Women's Champions League after a 1-0 win over Amani FCF in Kindu, DR Congo on Sunday. The final tournament will be played in Cairo, Egypt, from 5 to 19 November 2021.
The Equatorial Guinea side had secured a comfortable advantage at home, following a heavy 4-1 triumph in the first leg of the final qualifying round over their DR Congo rivals at the Estadio de Malabo on August 31, 2021.
Drepoba Stephanie Gbogou’s hat-trick and Linan N’Gbazo effort saw the Equatorial Guineans outscoring their visitors despite Marlène Kasaj Yav's precious away goal for Amani.
In Kindu, Grace Balongo's solitary strike two minutes into the second half was all the Somos Kings required to complete a double over their hosts in the second leg and emerged the winner of the Central Africa zone, with a 5-1 aggregate score.
With the home and away triumphs, Malabo secured the slot for the UNIFFAC zone and qualified to compete for continental glory in the inaugural final tournament in Egypt later this year.
At it stands, Malabo King (UNIFFAC), Vihiga Queens (Cecafa), Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies (Cosafa), Rivers Angels (WAFU B), Hasaacas Ladies (WAFU-B), AS FAR (UNAF), AS Mande (WAFU-A) and hosts Wadi Degla SC completed the list of eight finalists for the showpiece in the land of Pharaohs.
