The number plate VAR9Y has been put up for auction by 28-year-oldDavid McMurray following his failure to sell it to Leicester City forward Jamie Vardy.

McMurray purchased the personalised plate for £4,000 with the intention of reselling it to the striker for profit, but has given up on that idea as word fromthe England international hasn't been forthcoming.

It's been months since McMurray bought the plate, and he has since turned to eBay in efforts to offload it.

"I can't seem to be able to get in contact with Jamie at all," he said to the Leicester Mercury (H/T the Mirror).

"I was hoping he would give me enough to make a profit.

"I was talking it one of the player liaison officers [at Leicester City] a couple of months ago, but he never got back to me.

"I don't even know if Vardy even knows anything about it."

Vardy is a known car fanatic, but doesn't seem to be interested in such a plate. As of Monday, the highest bid stood at £870. However, withthe auction set to run up until Boxing Day, there's hope yet.

"I'm going to accept any price - I just need to get rid of it," McMurray admitted.

"There's a lot of time still to go, so hopefully I won't lose three grand over it.

"If I do make my money back then I won't regret doing this."
