Manchester United striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic has spoken openly of his knee injury and the concerns he had about his career.

Ibrahimovic suffered the setback in April in a Europa League game.

He recalled to SportExpressen: "I thought I'd land before I really landed, so I stretched out my leg and landed completely wrong. The leg went back and then pulled out.

"I've never been hurt, I just felt I swallowed my tongue. It was a strange feeling I have never known before. I told myself that it was just a bang and I would get up and drive on, just like after all the other tackles, but when I got up I felt it was not in balance. I got into the locker room and they started checking. Someone said theirs, but it was impossible to say exactly what it was until a scan, and you can not do that right away, you should wait for the next day. They realized that it was the ligament, which is no secret.

"Then I was injured and it started spinning in my head. 'What happens?' It was a month left until the end of the season. 'What should I do? I'm 35 years old, what's the future like?'

"Everything started spinning once instead of playing one game at a time and focusing on one thing. There were many things that were spinning around. But the first thing I said was: 'Giving up is no alternative, it is not. I have come here, I will finish my way. I'll stop whenever I want and the way I want'.

"Since that day, I've really only run rehab training and mentally asked myself to come back. I'll be even better and stronger than before I was hurt. That is the goal, and it will happen, there are no other options."
