Man Utd Boss Jose Mourinho Eyes Ambitious £80m Bid for Spurs Star as Antoine Griezmann Alternative

Jose Mourinho is apparently considering an audacious £80m swoop to bring Tottenham hitman Harry Kane to Old Trafford should a move for Antoine Griezmann fall through in the summer.

The Atletico Madrid star has been earmarkedbyUnited as theirnumber one transfer target, and rumours about his potential switch to Manchester have heated up since the arrival of his French compatriot Paul Pogba at the Theatre of Dreams last summer for a world record fee from Juventus.

The former Real Sociedad winger has developed into one of world football's most coveted forwards, and enjoyed a terrific 2016 that saw him reach the Champions League and Euro 2016 finals as well as gain recognition individually in the Ballon d'Or and World Player of the Year awards.

But according to the Daily Star, Mourinho has a back up plan in the form of England striker Kane should a move for Griezmann fail to materialise.

The paper claims that executive vice chairman Ed Woodward has told sources he would be difficult to sign untilthe endof the next campaign, with the player having signed a new deal at White Hart Lane earlier in the season.

But Starsport insist that won't be a stumbling block for the United boss, who could stump up a staggering £80m bid to test the London club's resolve over their talisman.

Wayne Rooney's future at the club remains uncertain, whilst Zlatan Ibrahimovic cannot play forever, meaning aKane partnership/competition with Marcus Rashfordcould be a viable option in the future for the Red Devils should Griezmann snub a Premier League switch.

It would not be the first timeSpurs chairman Daniel Levy has cashed in on one of the club's best assets, having sanctioned moves away from the Lane for the likes of Gareth Bale andLuka Modric.
