Man Utd Boss Jose Mourinho Reveals Mkhitaryan Injury 'Not as Bad as First Feared'

Jose Mourinho has revealed that he doesn't believe the injury suffered by Henrikh Mkhitaryan late on in their 1-0 win over Spurs is as bad as first feared afterthe Armenian was stretchered off in the 85th minute of the game.

The winger has only just managed to establish himself in the United side and earned his Premier League start after an impressive Europa League display last week. Mkhitaryan is believed to have suffered an ankle injury.

Mkhitaryan condemned Tottenham to a second straight league defeat with his first first league goal for the club, smashing the ball beyond a helpless Hugo Lloris.

Speaking toSky Sportsafter the game, Mourinho said:We don't think it's a serious injury. We don't think maybe Henrikh can play for a week.

"I was afraid it was serious but looks like it's not. He does not need surgery.Maximum a couple of weeks. It doesn't look like something that is very dangerous or difficult."

Henrikh Mkhitaryan has now been directly involved in 4 goals in his last 4 games for Man United.

After seeing his side pick up a win after three straight league draws, the Portuguese boss said:"He brings everything I want an attacker to play. Maybe one week out and it is better to be fresh for Boxing Day.

With just 20 goals scored so far this season, Manchester united have scored just one goal more than relegation-battling Swansea, so losing the winger at this point will come as a massive blow with their other attackers struggling for form.

United face a trip to Selhurst Park and Crystal Palaceon Wednesday and, unfortunately for them, they'll definitely have to do it without the in-form Armenian.

Mourinho does have options though with the likes of Juan Mata, Marcus Rashford, Jesse Lingard, Memphis Depay and Wayne Rooney all lining up to replace the crocked Mkhitaryan.

Manchester United went on to win this clash with Spurs despite the injury, allowing them to close the gap between them and the London club to just three points, and after a strong performance against Spurs, United fans will be hoping that this result can kick-start their season.
