The central defender is reportedly desperate to work under Manchester United legend Jaap Stam at Reading, following a disappointing loan spell at Celtic last season.

However, when the Royals boss was quizzed byGetReadingover the prospect of signing Blackett, he gave very little away:I don't know. We're still looking for a couple of signings.'

I know Tyler, not personally, but I know what he can do, what type of player he is, the way he can play. But I don't know yet if it's going to happen.''

We've shown our interest but I don't know if we will succeed getting him to the club.

However, it has now emerged that the Manchester United youngster has undergone a medical with the Royals ahead of a permanent switch, which could be announced as early as Monday.

If a deal is concluded Blackett will become Reading's 11th summer signing, following in the footsteps of fellow central defender Liam Moore who signedfrom Leicester on Saturday for a reported £1m fee.

Tyler Blackett is likely to act as cover for captain Paul McShane and new-boy Liam Moore at the back while also providing much needed cover and competition for left-back Jordan Obita.

The Englishman has featured twelve times for the Red Devils since making his debut and has had loan spells at Celtic, Birmingham and Blackpool, but is now looking for a permanent switch in the hunt for more football action, with Reading being a great destination for the youngster to develop and learnfrom Jaap Stam.
