Man Utd Facing Fight to Keep Zlatan Ibrahimovic Amid £30m-a-Year Chinese Super League Rumours

Published on: 06 March 2017

Manchester United could end up losing Zlatan Ibrahimovic to the lucrative Chinese Super League, if a vague report is anything to go by.

Transfer Market Web has claimed that the 35-year-old could trade Premier League football for the Far East once his contract expires in the summer.

The report has alleged that Ibrahimovic could be line for a staggering 35m euros (£30m) a season deal - a contract that works out at a stunning £576k-a-week.

However, both Ibrahimovic and United manager Jose Mourinho have made noises in recent weeks about extending his stay with the 20-time English top flight champions, and United would be loathe to lose the veteran thanks to a superb maiden campaign since his summer switch from Paris Saint-Germain

Ibrahimovic has plundered a remarkable 26 goals in just 35 appearances for the Red Devils, and United fans are keen to see the ex-Sweden international retained on their club's books for another season or two as a result.

The Daily Mirror said last Wednesday that it believed that Ibrahimovic was holding out for a two-year extension to remain in Manchester past his current deal's June 2017 expiration date, despite already having the option to sign on the dotted line for at least one more season regardless of how well he did in his first term at United.

United's hand could be forced further by Ibrahimovic's agent, the notoriously hard bargainer Mino Raiola, in any further negotiations to keep the ex-Barcelona and AC Milan striker at the club, but Mourinho and the club's hierarchy will hope that their good relations with Raiola - world record signing Paul Pogba being another of his clients - will help both parties come to a compromise.

Ibrahimovic has also been linked with big money moves to America's MLS after admitting he would enjoy "conquering" the football league stateside, while other European clubs are alleged to be keeping a close eye on his contractual situation as well.

Ibrahimovic has more pressing matters to deal with in the immediate future, however, after he was charged with violent conduct by the FA for elbowing Bournemouth's Tyrone Mings during the sides' 1-1 draw last Saturday.
