Man Utd Players and Staff 'Up in Arms' as Jose Mourinho Calls Christmas Afternoon Training Session

Published on: 11 December 2016

Manchester United players and staff are said to have been left fuming after Jose Mourinho ordered them to prepare for a training session at Old Trafford...at 4:30pmon Christmas Day.

The Sunreport that the club's staff are used to seeing the first team take a brief training session at the Carrington training ground on Christmas morning before taking the rest of the day to spend with their families, but the additional processes involved in training sessions at the main ground will see extra staff called into work.

United won their first home Premier League game in over 11 weeks when they beat Tottenham on Sunday afternoon, but a dismal run of form has left Mourinho's side sixth in the table, a full 13 points off leaders Chelsea and six points from even a top four spot.

With title hopes more or less already dashed, Mourinho is now expected to pour a significant amount of effort into winning at least one cup competition - but Champions League qualification is still thought to be the club's top priority.

The newspaper quote a club source, who said:"Everyone is seriously p***** off. They've never heard anything like it - not even under Fergie. All the staff are used to coming in and sorting training out at Carrington but having it at Old Trafford adds a whole new level of organisation and brings more staff in.

"Jose's had a face like thunder at the training ground for most of the season and is clearly not happy with results. Some staff will even have to stay later on to sort out the pitch and stadium for the next day's home game. He's effectively cancelled Christmas."
