The Daily Mail says United's stars called the Portuguese his old nickname, the Special One, in the immediate aftermath.

At half-time, Mourinho is thought to have foreseen exactly what would unfold in the second half.

He told the United squad that Chelsea were on the ropes and urged them to quickly push for a second goal - predicting that Antonio Conte would quickly introduce Cesc Fabregas in a bid to claw back some control.

As it was, Ander Herrera netted just four minutes after the break, with Fabregas being introduced in the 54th minute.

Mourinho relaid to his players during the interval that he would then replace Jesse Lingard with Michael Carrick as a defensive shield to thwart the threat of Fabregas.
