Man Utd Set to Complete Victor Lindelof Deal After Agreeing Personal Terms and £38m Fee

Manchester United appear all set to complete the signing of Swedish international defender Victor Lindelof when the January transfer window officially opens in 11 days' time.

Benfica president Luiz Filipe Vieira flew to England earlier this week to negotiate with United. He was accompanied by super-agent Jorge Mendes and the latest noise on the proposed move suggests that a deal between all parties has now been struck.

According to a report from O Jogo in Portugal, a fee of just under £38m has been agreed by the clubs, with £4.2m in add-ons should Lindelof his various targets in a United shirt.

Personal terms with the player himself also seem to have been laid out, with the rising talent set to sign a five and a half year contract that will keep him at Old Trafford until 2022.

It is thought that Lindelof will pocket around £3m in wages each season, equating to more than £15m over the full length of the deal.

Once the transfer is fully complete next month, Lindelof will become the most expensive defender in United's history. Eric Bailly was signed for £30m from Villarreal during the summer, while the previous mark was still the £29.1m paid to Leeds for Rio Ferdinand back in 2002.

The 22-year-old only broke into Benfica's first team as a regular last season and immediately collected a Portuguese league title and a domestic league cup.

He has also been an ever present in the club's Champions League campaign so far this season and is becoming more and more important for the Swedish national team with each set of international fixtures having made his senior debut earlier this year.
