Man Utd Set to Launch Tantalising World-Record £100m Bid for Atletico Madrid Star Next Summer

Manchester United are expected to make a world-record bid for Atletico Madrid striker Antoine Griezmann in the coming summer, with theSpanish clubreportedly sounding out Chelsea's Diego Costa as his replacement.

The France international has been strongly linked with the Red Devils for several months, and a move to Manchester would see him reunite with his French teammate and current transfer world-record holder, Paul Pogba.

According to the Independent, United are preparing to break the bank once again - this time to the tune of £100m -for a pre-peakFrench star at the top of his game, and know that Griezmann has already expressed his desire to link up with Pogba at club level.

His acquisition would be another huge-name signing at Old Trafford after Jose Mourinho also brought in Eric Bailly, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and, of course, Zlatan Ibrahimovic last summer.

The fee being mentioned to secure Griezmann is testament to the player's rise to the top - despite losing the Champions League and Euro 2016 finals last year.

The 25-year-old was shortlisted alongside Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi for the Ballon d'Or and came fifth in FIFA's World Player of the Year standings for 2016 - signalling him as one of the game's hottest prospects.

TheIndependent claims that Atletico are resigned to losing their star in the summer, and have therefore already targeted Diego Costa as his replacement.

The Spanish striker was left out by Antonio Conte for Chelsea's trip to Leicester at weekend after reports emerged that he had his head turned by the Chinese Super League.

Should Costa remain with the Blues, he is expected to become the subject of a bidding war between Atleti and Barcelona, who may have to relinquish their La Liga crown to rivals Real Madrid this season.
