Man Utd Star Ibrahimovic and Cherries Man Mings Set for Lengthy Bans After Old Trafford Clash

Published on: 04 March 2017

Manchester United striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Bournemouth defender Tyrone Mings both look set for a spell on the sidelines, according to the Mail Online.

Despite being down to 10 men for the entire second half, Bournemouth managed to clinch a point at Old Trafford and Manchester United were once again held to a frustrating draw at home.

The game will be remembered for two incidents involving the same two players in the first half. Ibrahimovic and Mings had been embroiled in a battle from the first whistle and on the stroke of half-time, it all came to a head.

The Bournemouth man appeared to deliberately stamp on the striker's head as he was lying on the floor. Ibrahimovic didn't have to wait long for his retribution as he caught Mings with a swinging elbow in the resulting corner that left the Bournemouth players incensed.

Neither player received any punishment for their actionson the day, but the Mail reports that both men are likely to face a three-match ban as the FA look set to review video footage before making a decision.

Mings already looks set to be out of action as he came off late in the second period with an injury, but should Zlatan pick up a suspension, it would be a huge blow for Jose Mourinho and his side.

The Swedish striker has taken English football by storm and his 26 goals in all competitions have already helped United achieve their first major trophy of the season with League Cup success last week.

Should he receive a ban, Ibrahimovic is going to miss the crucial FA quarter-final tie at Stamford Bridge next Monday against Chelsea, not to mention Premier League matches against West Brom and Middlesbrough.
