"Zlatan Ibrahimovic will serve a three-match suspension with immediate effect after he admitted an FA charge of violent conduct and accepted the standard penalty," the statement says.

"It follows an incident in or around the 44th minute of the game between Manchester United and AFC Bournemouth on Saturday (4 March 2017).

"The misconduct was not seen by the match officials at the time but caught on video."

Ibrahimovic appeared to elbow Mings as the two competed for a header after the Cherries defender caught the Swede's head while attempting to jump over him.

Ibrahimovic will now miss the FA Cup tie against Chelsea and the following Premier League matches against Middlesbrough and West Brom. He will return for the home tie against Everton but remains available for the Europa League matches against FC Rostov.

The news comes as a blow for United, who have relied on Ibrahimovic for goals throughout the course of the season. The former PSG striker has 15 goals in the Premier League, with 26 in all competitions, and is United's top scorer.

The suspension will likely offer Wayne Rooney and Marcus Rashford chances up front, while Anthony Martial could be moved infield.
