Manchester City Boss Pep Guardiola Claims 'There Is a Lot of Time Left' in Title Fight

Published on: 31 December 2016

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola believes there is still plenty of time for his side to reassert themselves in the Premier League title race.

Saturday's loss to Liverpool has left City 10 points behind leaders Chelsea, and Guardiola's side could find themselves out of the top four should both Tottenham and Arsenal win their matches on Sunday. Georginio Wijnaldum's header condemned City to defeat, but Guardiola believes there is still time left for City to catch reduce the gap between his team and Chelsea.

We have to focus on ourselves, not what the teams around us are doing or what our targets are," the former Bayern Munich and Barcelona boss toldCity's official club website.

We are only entering the second half of the season and there is still more than five months to go so it's a bit early to be worrying too much. It's not even January yet so there is a lot of time left.

All we must do is concentrate on the next game which is Burnley, try to win that and then look to win two or three games in a row and carry on from there.

There is still a long way to go

We have to show strong personality, keep fighting and do what we have to do to win the games.

Things could be better but I like working with these guys because they give me everything when they play and train and so the next game, we'll try again.

City will hope to get back to winning ways when they host Burnley on Monday, before they travel to West Ham for their FA Cup fixture.
