Manchester City Lining Up Shock Swoop for Out of Favour Chelsea Midfielder Cesc Fabregas

Manchester City are weighing up a potential move for Chelsea misfit Cesc Fabregas, according to the Sun.

Fabregas joined Chelsea back in 2014, helping the Blues win the Premier League during his first season with the club. He experienced a poor second year however, falling out with then manager Jose Mourinho before the Portuguese was sacked following the club's poor start to the season.

He has struggled for form this season, with Chelsea boss Antonio Conte preferring N'Golo Kante and Nemanja Matic in central midfield. Fabregas has featured in just four Premier League games this season, and made his biggest impression during an away EFL Cup tie at Leicester, scoring twice in a 4-2 extra-time victory.

Fabregas' former Barcelona coach Pep Guardiola has identified the 29-year-old as a January target, and would be willing to part with £20m in order to sign the former Arsenal playmaker. The Spaniard rejected the chance to leave Stamford Bridge in the summer, with both AC Milan and Juventus reportedly making bids to sign Fabregas in the summer.

City have come unstuck in their past four matches in all competitions having previously started the season in faultless fashion, recently being heavily beaten by Barcelona in the Champions League while also drawing against Everton and losing to Tottenham in the Premier League.

Guardiola has reportedly become frustrated with the performances of Fernandinho, but doesn't see either Fernando or the outcast Yaya Toure as the solution. Fabregas could offer the solution to Guardiola's problem, having fallen behind in the pecking order in Chelsea's midfield.
