Manchester City's Leroy Sane could be 'weapon' for Germany - Toni Kroos

With Leroy Sane failing to make Manchester City's first team, Raf Honigstein and the FC panel examine if his Germany omission was warranted.

Gab Marcotti looks at both sides of the saga unfolding at Manchester City after Leroy Sane was dropped by Pep Guardiola against Newcastle.

ESPN FC's Julien Laurens and Raf Honigstein explain what to expect from the UEFA Nations League opener between France and Germany on Thursday.

Toni Kroos has urged Germany teammate Leroy Sane to use his full potential as he could be a matchwinner.

Sane was a surprise omission from Joachim Low's 23-man World Cup squad and has yet to start a match for Manchester City this season -- having been left out of the squad entirely for the 2-1 victory over Newcastle at the weekend. However, he earned a recall to the Germany squad for their Nations League clash with France and friendly against Peru; and Kroos wants to see more from him.

"He could be a real weapon for us," the Real Madrid midfielder said at a news conference on Wednesday. "I think Leroy is an absolute team player."

Kroos was also critical of Sane's body language, insisting it almost seemed as if he didn't care.

"You sometimes get the feeling that it doesn't matter to him if we win or lose -- but that's only his body language," Kroos added. "I don't know if that's the case. He has his qualities."

Germany kick-off their Nations League campaign with a match against World champions France on Thursday and Kroos believes Sane's unique skillset could be a real asset for them.

"It must be underlined that [Germany] don't have another player like Leroy with all his qualities," Kroos said. "He's a player with all the makings to become world class, but also one who needs to be told to do so now and again."
