Manchester United Target Victor Lindelof 'Signs New Contract' With Benfica Until 2021

Manchester United target Victor Lindelof appears to have snubbed interest from the Premier League to sign a new contract at Benfica, according to club documents released on Sunday.

The most notable passage reads:Benfica chose to extend the employment relationship with Lisandro López for three more sports seasons until June 30, 2021, and with Victor Lindelof until the end of the 2020/2021 season.�


The statement also made reference to agreements that the club would own the 'total economic rights' for Lindelof and a number of other players until the end of June in 2021, hinting at a long-term extension for the Swedish centre back.


United are still expected to make a move for the Benfica man in the summer, but face the prospect of paying out a significantly higher fee to the Portuguese club if they pursue a permanent transfer.

Fellow Swede and former Manchester City youth prospect John Guidetti admitted toExpressenrecently that he would have backed a move to United for his close friend despite his previous club allegiances, saying: "Haha, no, I can not say. I wanted it to be what he wanted.Had he wished to United I had also wanted it to be. I always take my friends before the old law."


When pressed for details, he added: "You'll have to ask him about [it]. I have privacy.As friends, I think there is talk enough about football.We try to focus on buzz about other things in life.Vigge [Lindelof] is a great football player and will have a fantastic football career. He does not immediately worry."
