Marouane Fellaini Slams 'World Champion Leg Breaker' Jamie Carragher After Pundit's Criticism

Manchester United midfielderMarouane Fellaini has hit back at criticism from former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher.

Ex-Reds centre-back Carragher said last year how he thought Fellaini should leave the Premier League after a series of incidents involving the Belgian. Fellaini has been caught using his elbows in altercations with Emre Can, Ron Vlaar, Joe Allen and Pablo Zabaleta in recent years, and Carragher wrote of how worried he was regarding the former Everton man's conduct.

"Three games is not a sentence that will prove a deterrent to Fellaini. He is a repeat offender and it has gone beyond the point now where people can attempt to defend him by saying he is a tall lad who is using his arms for leverage," Carragher wrote forthe Daily Mail.

"He isn't learning and he is now getting the kind of reputation where players will be worried on a weekly basis about getting hurt when they come up against him.

"Personally I hope we don't see his elbows in England again."

Hitting back, Fellaini said Carragher had no right in criticising him given the former England international's style of play.

"If I am violent and aggressive, what was Carragher?" Fellaini told Belgian publication Sport/Foot as quoted byJoe.

"He is the champion of blah-blah and the world champion of breaking legs. If you type his name into YouTube you'll only see him tackling."

Given that Carragher was previously a defender, it's hard to weigh upwhether seeing Carragher tackle in online videos is a damning criticism. Carragher certainly didn't seem to irked by Fellaini's comments, tweeting a lighthearted response.
