Match-Fixing Scandal: Inter Allies' Hashmin Musah banned for 'only six months' for helping GFA in investigation

Inter Allies defender Hashmin Musah has been banned for 'only six months' for helping the Ghana Football Association (GFA) in investigation into the match manipulation in their 2020/21 Ghana Premier League matchday 34 game against Ashanti Gold at the Obuasi Len Clay Stadium.

Musah was initially banned for two years (24 months) but due to the role he played in unravelling the fixed-match, the GFA reduced his ban.

The said match saw Ashanti Gold thrashed Inter Allies 7-0 involving two own goals.

The 25-year-old, who came into the game as a second-half substitute and bagged two own goals, confessed to deliberately putting the ball behind his own goalkeeper with intentions of foiling what he suspected was a standing, fixed 5-0 scoreline.

"That the Hashmin Musah is banned from taking part in any football-related activity for a period of 24 months," a GFA verdict reads.

"However, the Committee has mitigated the sanctions due to the role he played in unravelling the fixed match.

"His sanction is therefore reduced to a period of six months and warned not to take the law into his hands but has a duty to disclose any such occurring to the GFA through the Integrity Hotline."
