Accra Hearts of Oak has today defeated Togolese side Etoile Filante by a goal to nil in an international friendly match as they continue preparations in anticipation to the start of the 2019/2020 Ghana Premier League season.
Prior to today’s match, the Phobians had played quite a number of friendly matches in Ghana before deciding to step it up a notch by engaging a club outside the country.
In a match played at the Stade Omnisport du Lome, the Ghanaian club played some beautiful football and did the needful by getting on the scoresheet to ensure they recorded a win.
The goal came in the first half after 36 minutes of play when highly-rated Mitchelle Sarpong reacted quickest to a loose ball in Etoile Filante’s 18-yard box to fire his shot into the back of the net.
Despite an entertaining and attacking football displayed in the second half, neither side could get on the scoresheet.
Hearts of Oak eventually emerged as 1-0 winners and will return home with a lot of confidence as they seek to wrap up preparations before the start of the new season which has been scheduled for the weekend of December 27-29, 2019.
