Kumasi Asante Kotoko has emerged as the winners of the 2019 President Cup after posting a 2-1 win over arch rivals Accra Hearts of Oak at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.

The two Ghana Premier League giants met on September 8 for a cup match to honour Ghana’s president His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. After just 10 minutes into the game, heavy rainfall at the match venue forced the referee for the day to call it off.

In a replay of the fixture today, both teams set up to enjoy triumph to give them confidence ahead of the start of the 2019/2020 Ghana Premier League season.

Though the Porcupine Warriors started very well, they found themselves down by a goal to nil after 36 minutes. A penalty given away by defender Empem Dacosta was converted by Hearts striker Kofi Kordzi to give his side the lead.

A resilient play from there on forced the Rainbow lads to concede an own goal, bringing the Reds back into the game. The highly-rated defender Mohammed Alhassan was the man who sent the ball into his own net.

In the second half, the home team continued from where they left off as they searched for the crucial goal that will give them the lead.

Continuous pieces of good plays eventually produced the crucial goal when substitute Naby Keita found the back of the net on the 63rd minute.

Despite a show of desire from Hearts to draw level, Kotoko remained resolute and dominated play to eventually win 2-1, to emerge as winners of the 2019 President Cup.
