Mauricio Pochettino Claims Tottenham Can 'Win the Big Things' After Massive 2-0 Win Over Chelsea

Mauricio Pochettino has claimed that Tottenham Hotspur can "challenge for the big things" after seeing his side dispatch league leaders Chelsea 2-0.

The White Hart Lane-based outfit secured a massive victory over the Premier League table toppers as Dele Alli's two headed efforts ensured that the Lilywhites reduced the gap between them and the Blues to seven points.

The result lifted Pochettino's men up to third at the expense of Manchester City, and also ended the Blues' 13-match unbeaten run that had stretched back to mid-September and, speaking to the BBC after the game, Pochettino stated that the Londoners were now primed to make an assault on winning the biggest trophies in the game.

Mauricio Pochettino has never lost a Premier League London derby at home with Spurs:

He said: It is a massive victory, a very important three points to reduce the gap at the top of the table. It was a very tough game, we were playing one of the best teams in Europe, so the value of the victory is massive.

It makes us very proud and we showed character and were competitive. It is one step forward for the team and is important to keep going. Football is about belief.

"We have shown we can challenge for the big things. We are in a good position, Chelsea is in a very good position, but we are fighting to get points and to reduce the gap above us. We are relaxed, the only thing is to keep going."

The Argentine boss also reserved special praise for goalscorer Dele Alli, who has now plundered seven goals in his last four league outings for Spurs. The 20-year-old managed to ghost in unmarked to nod home both of the game's goals, and Pochettino failed to contain his delight at his teenage sensation's goalscoring prowess.

He added: "He is showing fantastic skills in front of the goal. He is a great player and one who has potential to improve. He was fantastic today again.

"It is very important to keep in our mind that belief and in football it is always important to think of the next game and to keep going. It is difficult to stop and enjoy that fantastic result."
