On May 27th, VfL Osnabrück celebrated immediate promotion to the second tier with a thrilling 2-1 victory in injury time over Borussia Dortmund's U-23s.

A long pass from defender Maxwell Gyamfi set up both scores.

Gyamfi established himself as the indisputable regular with the Lila-Weiss in his maiden season in professional football. The 23-year-old started 35 league games, missing only two due to suspension and one due to sickness.

He was an essential member of the starting eleven due to his toughness, quickness, and strength in one-on-one battle. Born in Dortmund, his rise was one of the most notable in the third division season.

Before joining the Purple and White Gyamfi trained with Borussia Dortmund and FC Schalke 04 at youth level. From 2017 to 2020 the defender then moved to VfL Bochum.

Gyamfi's adviser Kevin Kyei stated that nobody thought he will have an amazing season with VfL Osnabrück. Kevin Kyei added that Gyamfi is in good hands at the Bundesliga 2 club despite interest from other clubs.

"I'm sure that hardly anyone believed that Maxwell would play such an amazing season - crowned with promotion. I can still remember that many of us were more at the beginning smiled at, but that's business (laughs)," he told RevierSport.

"It was just very important that we both believed in the vision and worked hard to get to where we are right now. It's still a long time The path we have ahead of us. One thing is clear: he can be extremely proud of himself and his development,"

"Of course, there are always interested parties when a boy suddenly develops like this and nobody had him on the screen. In Osnabrück, however, he is currently in good hands and will take over there more and more of a leadership role from time to time, and he knows the environment very well. At that young age, match practice definitely counts and that should always be the priority,"
