The unfortunate incident happened on Match Week 3 of the ongoing 2019/2020 Ghana Premier League season when the giants hosted the Berekum-based club at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.

In the second half of the match, fans of Kotoko felt being cheated by the center referee and threw foreign objects onto the pitch to express their displeasure. Their anger continued until the end of the match as they tried to deal with the referee.

Following tense moments, a fan by name Augustine Opoku was shot by a Police Officer and subsequently had to be rushed to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.

Eight days later, coach Maxwell Konadu has visited the injured supporter to check on his condition.
