Medeama SC deny reports of playing CAF Champions League home games at Baba Yara Stadium

Ghanaian champions, Medeama SC in a press release has stated that the club has not selected Baba Yara Stadium as their home venue for their CAF Champions League games. 

According to reports in the local media on Tuesday morning the club will use Baba Yara Stadium for their home games but Medeama's press release has rubbished the reports.

The club's press release reads: "We bring to the notice of our supporters and the sporting public that Medeama Sporting Club has not selected the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi as its home venue for the group stage of the 2023-24 CAF Champions League.

The club has chosen the T and A Stadium in Tarkwa as its first option, awaiting inspection and clearance from the continent’s governing body, the Confederation of African Football (CAF),"

With regards to using Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi and the Cape Coast Stadium the Yellow and Mauve said: "The Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi and the Cape Coast Stadium remain the only TWO approved venues for the group phase of the CAF inter-club competition.

The two venues are under consideration together with the newly built T and A Stadium in Tarkwa.

The Cape Coast Stadium served as the home venue of the team during the preliminary round with a decision on the permanent venue for the group stage to be made soon,"

Medeama made a giant step to secure qualification to the group stage in their maiden appearance after edging out Remo Stars and Horoya AC.

Medeama have drawn in Group D of the competition and will face defending champions Al Ahly SC, Algerian champions CR Belouizdad and Tanzanian giants Young Africans in that order.

The Tarkwa-based side will play their first group game against Al Ahly in Cairo before hosting Belouizdad at the Baba Yara Stadium in the second round.

The next home games will be against Young Africans and Al Ahly in that order.

The CAF Champions League group stage matches are scheduled to begin on Friday and Saturday, November 25 and 26, 2023, and end on March 1 and 2, 2024.
